Mid SpringSo the surprise is here its a Massey Ferguson 6713 on demo, We had it for 2 months, worked it hard, mainly used it on the cultivator, then finished of the planting field 5 in spring rye, then used it to mow the rest of field 38 and all of field 40. me and the boss liked the tractor, so a big important decision is do we go for it. got 25 grass silage from field 38 and 28 grass silage bales from field 40.

Late SpringSo We went for a used Fendt favorit 510c which had 270 hours on the clock, managed to plough field 40 up and plant clover grass, planted field 2 in soybeans, and rolled the spring soybeans. We had a tragedy the grey Ferguson tractor was stolen, apparently classic tractors are in demand. I have found a cheap bungalow to live in and bought a old land rover defender

The boss managed to use the roller before the demo ran out while I started to fertilisede field 5 before boss's wife took over.

Mid AutumnSo the soybeans in field 2 became ready to harvest so called the contractors back got 26,709L which had to go into the grain dryer to drop 5% moisture. after field 2 was harvested it was time to sell some clover silage and grass silage bales I got £6,030 for 20 Clover silage bales and £6,334 for 20 grass silage bales. I got a surprise call from an American farmer called Chester Eely saying that the local dealer should receive a grey Ferguson tractor with all the frontloader tools and a weight being delivered which they did. I picked it up while the boss's wife seeded field 2 with triticale.

Mid and Late Winter
Again not much happening, looking after the cows and calves. Boss went over the finance for the year a whopping £88,591 was paid out with £50,591 income, leaving us with a loss of £38,338. He mentioned the farm has a debt of £1,605,000, which 10% of income goes towards the debt so this year its £5,000. He said one payment was a princess Jessi special roadrunner he purchased and gave to Chester Eely. We have purchased the mowers on demo on a 3 year finance, and plan on buying the sulky fert spreader in the new year.

Early Summerthe eve before the harvest season, the clover finally dried I manged to get 45 bales of clover hay. I saw a couple of fire engines heading to a farm north east of us. I heard that it was a bale barn that went up., the farmer came to see if we had some hay for sale, my boss told me to sell the 45 clover hay bales to him which I did we got £18,716 from him. we did get some stick from neighbouring farms saying we should had gifted them to him but our farm is not in shape to take a hit like that. The soybean price peek at £2,199 at coastal export so it was time to fill their Scania lorry up with 26,730L of soybeans and got a cool £58,782 which is good as there is a farm equipment auction next month due to a bank closing a farm down with an almighty £3 million debt. My boss was away on holiday, he went to a farm in flint hills, USA, he said he got to drive a new 2020 8370rt planting corn, and has volunteered me to help out their harvest time in Autumn. nearly forgot I had a jack ride on mower demo, so I decided to mow around the arable fields and clean up the farm yard

Mid SummerHarvest is here, but first the Auction a very busy morning and a expensive one as well. with a total of £500k being spent, don't worry only £41,750 of it was from us. a Pottinger terradisc 3001 disc harrow, a Sulky seed tank and the Seeder to match, a Pottinger HIT 8.9 T tedder and a Pottinger TOP 61C windrower. I then cut field 38 for second cut hay which I tedded a few times to help it dry out and while it was drying. the contractor turned up to start harvest Triticale in field 2 which I got 66,866L and 69 bales of straw by the time I baled the straw on the next day the grass had turned to hay so I windrowed it and baled it I got a total of 36 bales of hay which we are keeping for our cows. I had enough time to try out a farmtech muck spreader with a Massey Ferguson 5713 S. I did use our fendt favourit 115C for a few loads to see how it handles it.

Early AutumnManaged to get the last clover silage bales of field 40, cultivate and plant field 2 (canola) and 5 (Spelt), my second to last job before I go to flint hills was to sell the 45 clover silage bales which got we got £14,827 which will go towards a new bale shed, that my boss has decided it was time to build, which means during winter we got to move the siliage bales from the pits as they are being demolished for this bale shed.

Mid and Late Autumnlast job before I leave is to load up United grains lorry and trailer with Canola which we sold for £58,317, Also the milkman came and collect the milk which sold for £65,662. With those tasks done time to catch my flight to Flint hills USA, They had a John Deere x9 on demo. I was mainly a grain carter but they did allow me to drive the x9 on a field of soybeans. When I came home, boss said they bought another arable field which was owned by the farm that the bank closed, the bank couldn't find a buyer for the whole farm so they are breaking up the fields, there was a field opposite us that was owned by them, so it made sense for us to make a bid for £114,072 which was accepted so we now own field 28.

WinterNot much doing, looking after the cows, the calving season has started, so far 3 calves have been born all female, got a further 7 calves to be born. Loaded up United grains lorry with 66,905L of triticale which sold for £49,273. Sold 69 straw bales for £25,639. Time to pay the second payment for the mowers which again is £6,200 and the debt 10% been paid as well which came to a whooping £32,000. So next year it looking good, Cow herd increasing, farm value increasing. Nearly forgot the bale shed has been installed which cost us £21,241 which the straw sale which paid it off. the fruit from our apple and plum tree gave us some good pocket money £10,043, I believe we are going to buy a pear tree in spring to add a bit more income.

Early SpringSo we bought a pear tree to add to the orchard. We Got a lovely Massey Ferguson 9406 S Telehandler on demo its first job is to fill the muck spreader, I then went on to boost the winter crops before I get onto ploughing field 28. my boss and I have been discussing the farm's progression and what is our next steps we are split on getting another field or getting a combine harvester so we are less depending on contractors, as there is a rumour that our local contractor is retiring and the next nearest contractor charges £500 more. We do have the funds for an used combine. With this covid tax coming in we got to make sure we don't buy anything unnessary nnecessary or something we can get cheaper.

Mid SpringA Lawn Seed Seller came to the farm to ask if we can grow this special grass for lawn grass seeds, so we planted field 28 with this seed. Managed to cut field 38 for first cut silage which we got 28 silage bales and used our new to us McHale bale wrapper. Boss decided to spray herbicide on our winter crops and spread fert on the clover. I got a few pics from the farmers in flint hills showing off their new fieldwork tractor and new planting tractor.

Late SpringNot much doing, unfortunately we missed the window to put the final fertiliser on the winter crops due to being I was to busy and totally forgot to fertilise them in mid spring as my boss health has deteriorated badly, his Lung cancer has came back and had a mild case of covid. So for now I am in charge of the farm, him and I have discussed that a new baler is on the cards and I saw a online dealer had a 30% off deal on all balers so I chose to get a new baler which is a McHale F550 which cost us a total of £35,700 which I put straight to work baling first cut clover hay which we sold straight off the field to a big sheep farm in Chellington Valley who unfortunately lost his bale barn to a fire caused by a lighting strike he gave us £17,231 for 44 bales. A Local farmer has requested the dealer if he can buy the Massey Telehandler so the demo has been cut short but they say the are going to replace it with a new JCB agri Telehandler for the summer and change it again for Autumn and Winter. There is a Combine Harvester fair in early summer which I want to go an see.
