Hello fellow traders! Welcome to my story of buying and farming Skywalker Dairy. The name is inspired by my hobby of all things Star Wars! Following the news of my uncle deciding to sell the farm, I have moved from my home in Marxville, Wisconsin out to the flat plateau of Ohio to take over for him. He had a decent amount of acreage, with 5 fields and a well-kept dairy facility. He had 2 guys helping him out part-time, who are now employed by me. The dairy herd was sold off, so I have purchased 12 of my own Holsteins and hope to breed my own herd. The equipment I get to work with are a John Deere 2950, 4230, 4955, and 8530. There is also an 8960 that I am renting from a neighbor since the 8530 has a rough time on big cultivation work. So far, I've had the farm for nearly a year. At writing, it's mid autumn and I've gotten two cuts of grass, one for haylage and one for hay, I've got about 20 of the 40 acres of beans cut, and the silage corn is temporarily on hold to finish soybeans. The trusty 2950 had to be traded into the dealer for a slightly nicer 6410 MFWD due to mechanical failure, and then we ran into issues with the New Holland FP240 with the metal detector failing continuously, so the local New Holland dealer supplied a FR450 as a demo unit to get the corn silage off quicker. My uncle was in good standing with the John Deere dealer especially, so I'm hoping I can secure a 9700 as a demo unit for some earlage corn and compare the two machines. The FP240 works good for grass, but if I want to expand my acreage any, using it for silage corn will not work with the short season to get the crops off. Here are some pictures of the past few months of work
